This City of Echo is a small rural Oregon community which has a lot of pride in its identity as a quiet and peaceful place to work and live. We are looking for someone who is seeking to work for a small municipality and assist the Public Works Director to maintain facilities such as roads, streets, water and wastewater systems, parks, flower gardens, irrigations systems, trees, and an assortment of other maintenance needs.

The successful candidate will be expected to be a self-starter, work as part of an effective team, able to work independently once trained, and will be expected to obtain at least one certification: water distribution 1 within two years of employment.

Job Type: Full Time

Pay: D.O.E. Hourly/Salary ($35,000-$40,000)

Essential Duties

  • Assist with monitoring potable water system tank levels and sewer lagoon levels.
  • Assist with monitoring sewage pumps, domestic water pumps and chlorination injection pumps.
  • Assist with daily testing of chlorination levels in water systems.
  • Assist with written and digital reporting processes.
  • Must be able to use computers and appropriate software to complete reporting tasks.
  • Performs grounds duties such as, but not limited to, lawn mowing, weed eating, tree pruning, irrigation, trash pick-up, etc.
  • Performs manual labor daily.
  • Operates and maintains equipment such as lawn mowers, riding tractors, pickups, loader/backhoe, golf course equipment, pumps, and an assortment of small powered equipment.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on city owned facilities such as painting, minor electrical and plumbing repairs, irrigation lines and sprinklers, city streets, signs, basic carpentry, and basic pump maintenance.
  • Assist PW Director with monthly meter reading and reporting.
  • Report to PW Director and/or City Administrator any ordinance violations.
  • Report all health and safety hazards to PW Director and City Administrator.
  • Assist PW Director with all daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections/testing of city facilities and utility systems.
  • Participate in team meetings and trainings and attend city council meetings as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • 6 months of related maintenance work (preferred).
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Trades school or college classes (not required but preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Able to obtain required certification within the allotted time.
