On October 8, the Umatilla River Trails Project held an educational meeting at the Echo Community Room, one of four county-wide meetings made possible by a technical assistance grant from the National Park Service.
County Planning Director Robert Waldher and Stephanie Stroud, of the Park Service, presented information about a proposed system that would interconnect Umatilla, Hermiston, Stanfield and Echo through a network of recreational trails.
The evening included interactive workstations where participants were invited to provide personal input and indicate preferences on routes and length of the trail.
After public input is gathered from the four involved communities, the next step will be for the cities to come together to formulate a conceptual plan and adopt it. Then, Umatilla County can apply for grants to fund the venture.
